There are several web browsers available and if you are a web designer, is a good chance to get away from Microsoft's Internet Explorer. This is because historically have had a very poor history of honoring Web standards, as well as have a number of security holes open.
In the past, Internet Explorer was much more closely related to Windows operation system, which means that when a vulnerability exists, it is much easier to attack the system maliciously operational. The vulnerabilities are nothing new and can be found in all web browsers, but as close association with the operating system, as well as many security holes, Internet Explorer made a popular choice for hackers and other criminals.
Today, Microsoft is better, both in terms of adding a layer of abstraction between the operating system and browser, and make small steps in compliance with HTML standards. However, it is still common for things to work well in Standards-compliant browsers more, such as Firefox or Opera, with a series of silly hacks necessary to get the same output style in Internet Explorer.
On the other hand, Firefox and Opera have several features that make it easier to look at a HTML web pages and inspecting the various elements on your page, and as ways to analyze, view the headers, and all other things, a web developer to do. Therefore, it is not surprising that more technical people near, Web developers in particular, do not use Internet Explorer.
So What are My Options
There are several browsers site, but Mozilla Firefox and Opera are two of the most popular choices, unless of course you use a Mac, in which case Safari is the default web browser. Opera is still far behind Firefox, and for that matter most browsers, but this is mainly because people just do not know very well of him.
Personally, I use Firefox more often, because there are several extensions I use daily, especially Firebug, which lets you inspect and debug HTML pages with Javascript. Opera offers something similar, but for me it just is not as useful and easy to use as Firebug is.
Firefox also has built-in spell checker, so every time I write something online, I can be reasonably sure that my spelling is correct. The Firefox search function is also very nice, much more useful than most other browsers, allowing you to search the bottom of the page, without interrupting your browsing. This differs from other browsers where the search function appears an extra window. However, the new Internet Explorer, IE8, has "won" this feature and set your search a little bit.
With that said, I love the speed and pleasant usually makes Opera pages. Speed dialing, which lets you select sites most visited site regularly is also very useful. I have also found that Opera generally does a better job with the Firefox Password Management does, and is more customizable by default. Another interesting feature of the opera is that by default allows you to go back and forth with scroll wheel, assuming you have a scroll wheel multiple access, so you can push left to go back right to go forward and up and down to scroll the page.
The only thing that prevents me from using it all the time is that although you can configure a filter list to block certain content, you can not disable fast. In addition, the last time I checked I could not whitelist a site, so the choice of filter is all or nothing. However, this may have changed.
Aside from Firefox and Opera, Google has recently introduced its own browser called Chrome. There are also multiple browsers open source framework based on Firefox, as Swiftfox, which is optimized for Linux.
As a web developer and computer programmer, Internet Explorer simply will not cut it for Jamie. Instead, he prefers Firefox and Opera, which are both very powerful and highly customizable.
